What Have You Written (John 19:22)

In the passage that we will use for the thought of the message Pilate wrote “This is Jesus of Nazareth, the King of the Jews”. The Pharisees wanted him to change the writing, but he made this statement in John 19:22 “What I have written, I have written”.

In this sermon we are going to look at the actions of our life as things that are written in a book, and the question we must ask ourselves is what have I written?

Things Written in the Book of Esther

There are at least nine different times that we see something written in the book of Esther, but an interesting fact is that the word God or Lord never appears in this book of the Bible. Even though this fact is true you cannot help but see the unseen hand of God all through the book of Esther.

Quick Trip through the Book of Esther:

• Esther 1:19-22 (Queen is banished and a law is written regarding her being banished)
• Esther 2:21-23 (Mordecai saved the King and it is recorded in the chronicles)
• Esther 3:9-15 (Haman has a decree written regarding the destruction of the Jews)
• Esther 6:2 (“It was found written” Mordecai’s exaltation)
• Esther 8:5 (Letters written to reverse Haman’s letters)
• Esther 8:8 (Write in the Kings name as it pleases you and seal it with the Kings ring)

Why We Should Write (Live) for the King

1) There was a time when we were banished (Esther 1:19-22)

• Before salvation we were alienated from God (Ephesians 2:11-13)

2)  There was a time when we were under the writing of Condemnation (Esther 3:9-15)

• We were guilty under the law therefore we need Jesus (John 3:17-18 ; Romans 5:12-16 ; Colossians 2:14).

3)  Letter were written to reverse the condemnation that was against us (Esther 8:5)

• This is seen in Ephesians 2:14-18.

4)  Now we are given an opportunity to write in the name of the King (Esther 8:8)

• We can now serve God and do all to the Glory of God (1 Corinthians 10:31)

5)  What we write will be found (Esther 2:21-23 with Esther 6:1-2)

• God is a God of records (Malachi 3:16) and it will be found be found and brought to remembrance.

6)  Because it cannot be altered (Esther 1:19 ; Esther 8:8)

• We must remember the words of Pilate “what I have written, I have written”
