Who Is That God? Dan. 3-15 CLICK TITLE FOR AUDIO
When Nebuchadnezzar threatened the Jews with the fiery furnace if they refused to worship his image he asked, Who is that God that shall deliver you out of my hands, [Dan 3:15]? He is:
The God who delivered Israel from Egypt – Ex 5:2 – Pharaoh didn’t know God and certainly believed that there was no God who could help the enslaved Jews against him. But time after time, God plagued Egypt because of Pharaoh, until Pharaoh couldn’t stand for the Jews to remain in the land. He let them go. And when he second guessed his decision and followed them to destroy them, God destroyed him and his army in the Red Sea. Who is that God? He is the living God of Israel.
The God who delivered Israel from Sennacherib – 2 Ki 18:35 – Sennacherib had defeated several nations by the time he attacked Israel. He attributed his victories to his great strength and power. He couldn’t imagine a God powerful enough to stop him. And yet, God killed 185,000 of his elite troops in one night and sent Sennacherib packing. When he was at home worshipping his own god, two of Sennacherib’s own sons assassinated him. Who is that God? He is the living God of Israel.
The God who delivered Daniel from the lion’s den – Dan 6:20 – Daniel had been promoted above the presidents and princes in Darius’ kingdom. The other presidents envied Daniel and entrapped him with a decree signed by the king. When the king discovered their plot, it was too late and Daniel had to spend a night in the lion’s den. The next morning the king learned that Daniel’s God had delivered him from the lions. The culprits were thrown in the den after Daniel came out and they were killed before their bodies hit the ground. Who is that God? He is the living God of Israel.
The God who delivered the Jews from the fiery furnace – Dan 3:28-29 – Nebuchadnezzar ordered the furnace to be heated seven times hotter than usual. It was so hot that when Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego were thrown in it, the flames killed the guards that threw them in. Nebuchadnezzar had no idea that there was a God who could protect them while they were in such a hot fire. But not long after they were thrown in, he saw the Son of God. And to his dismay, Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego were indeed delivered out of Nebuchadnezzar’s hands. Who is that God? He is the living God of Israel.
The God who delivered, delivers and will deliver you – 2 Cor 1:10 – spiritually, as God’s child, Jesus delivered you from the penalty of sin, he delivers you from the power of sin and he will deliver you from the presence of sin. Doctrinally, God delivers you from trials just like he delivered Paul in times when he despaired even of life [2 Cor 1:8]. You see, the same God who delivered Israel from Egypt, Israel from Sennacherib, Daniel from the lion’s den, and Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego from the fiery furnace is the same God that delivers you when you are in trouble. That same God is the God who lives in you. And just as he delivered all those, he will deliver you. Don’t question your God. Stay close to him and trust him. He delivers!!
Conclusion: You will never face a situation from which God cannot deliver you. Like Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego knew [Dan 3:16-18], God may not choose to deliver you, if he has a greater purpose in so doing, but he certainly can and he often does!!
