Why I am glad God requires Faithfulness

1 Corinthians 4:1-2

In this sermon we are going to be looking at the subject of faithfulness and how it is one of the main requirements when serving God. I will also give some simple reasons for why I am glad that God requires faithfulness.

God’s requirement (1 Corinthians 4:1-2)

In this passage we see that what God requires in stewardship is faithfulness. A steward is someone who has been given charge of something that does not belong to them. When it comes to serving God he can use our abilities but that is not the requirement the requirement is that you are faithful. There are many talented saved people but when it comes to faithful and talented many simply rely on their abilities and never really are that faithful. But as we will see in this sermon God blesses faithfulness.

Why I am glad God requires Faithfulness:

1)  Faithfulness gives anyone a shot at serving God (1 Timothy 1:12-13)

  • If you look at what Paul did before he was saved and how God used him after he was saved you would see that God can use anyone. Paul says in the above verse that God enabled him, even though he was a scholar of the Old Testament Law, because he was faithful.
  • Imagine what God could do with our abilities if we would just be more faithful.

2)  Faithfulness is about small matter (Luke 16:10-12)

  • It is being faithful in the little things that gets God’s attention. Note it is also what will lead to the bigger things.
  • In ministry everyone wants the big church or the spotlight but God is just looking for someone to be faithful.

3)  Faithfulness is rewarded by God (Luke 19:17 ; Matthew 25:21-13)

  • There is an example in the Old Testament that reminds me of how God may work regarding faithfulness. The example is Mordecai (Esther 2:21-23 with Esther 6:1-2)
  • It was recorded in the book of the chronicles for the king but no one knew about it and nothing was done for Mordecai. But God brought it to the King’s attention just at the right time.
  • God always remembers our work and will reward us at just the right time (Hebrews 6:10)
