Why I Only Use the King James Bible
2 Peter 1:16-21
The name of our Church is Bible Believers Baptist Church. Why do we call ourselves Bible Believers, everyone believes the Bible right? Everyone says that they believe the Bible, but which one. There are hundreds of Bibles on the markets today. How do I know which one is correct. In this study we are going to look at a simple way to judge whether a Bible version is good or not. This will be done by comparing them with the King James Version.
In 2 Peter 1:16-21 we learn that the written word is “more sure” than the spoken word. Anyone who has raised kids will understand why this is true. But for saved people this is a great statement. God’s word is sure, therefore it should be the final authority in our lives. The problem is how can you have a final authority if you do not have a perfect Bible. The answer is you cannot. The one who tells you that what the errors are and are not will become the final authority. This is why the issue of believing a Bible is perfect is so important for us today. Who is your final authority, God or man?
In 2 Peter 1:16-21 we also see that holy men of God spoke as they were moved by the Holy Ghost. That means that God told men like Moses, David, Isaiah, Jeremiah etc. what to write down and they wrote it down. For this reason, many will say that only the original writings were inspired. The problem is no one has these original writings or even seen them today. The leads us to the real issue which is preservation.
The Promise of Preservation
As stated above no one disputes the fact that the originals were inspired by God, so the question becomes did God preserve his word for us in the form that he wants it today? There is a promise that he would.
“The words of the Lord are pure words:as silver tried in a furnace of earth, purified seven times.Thou shalt keep them, O Lord, thou shalt preserve them from this generation for ever.” Psalm 12:6-7
The above verse is attacked in most all modern version with the promise of preservation of God’s words being taken away. With this verse I believe that God has provided us with a copy of his words in exactly the form that he wants us to have them today in the King James Bible. As Dr. Sam Gipp so wisely said, “Inspiration without preservation is a divine waste of time”
Simple test for checking versions of the Bible
You do not have to know Greek or Hebrew to know if the version of the Bible that you are reading is good. Just simply check the fruit (Matthew 7:15-20). By this we mean look at key verses in your Bible and compare them to the King James Bible and ask yourself if it takes away form God or a bible doctrine. Some good verses for this are as follows (Psalm 12:6-7 ; 2 Corinthians 2:17 ; 1 Timothy 3:16 ; John 3:13 ; Luke 2:33 ; Luke 2:22 ; Isaiah 14:12). Also look for Acts 8:37 as it is totally removed from most modern versions.
