Why We Should Come to Church
Psalm 122:1-9
In this sermon we are going to be making a spiritual application from some of the things David said regarding the house of the Lord. In the Church Age we are the temple of God (1 Corinthians 6:19) and therefore the Lord does not dwell in the church building as he did in the Old Testament Tabernacle, but it is still important for us to be a church.
Note some things David said regarding the House of the Lord:
Psalm 23:6 (I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever)
Psalm 27:4 (One thing I have desired, that will I seek after, to dwell in the house of the Lord)
Psalm 92:13 (Those planted in the house of the Lord shall flourish)
Psalm 122:1 (I was glad when they said unto me let us go unto the house of the Lord)
Why should we come to church?
1) Because of what it stands for (Psalm 122:2-4)
- It is not the building we are the temple of God (1 Corinthians 6:19)
- Note the word compact (Ephesians 2:19-22 ; Ephesiasns 4:16)
- Testimony of Israel was where God dwelled, that makes us the testimony to the world
- It is a place of thanksgiving (1 Thessalonians 5:18)
2) Because of the Personal Benefit (Psalm 122:5-7)
- It is where we can be judged by God’s word (1 Peter 4:17)
- It should be where we can pray and be prayed for by others (Luke 19:46)
- It is our place of peace from the world (John 16:33)
3) Because other need you to be there (Psalm 122:8-9)
- “I will seek thy good” (Philippians 2:1-8)
- How will the next generation be faithful and have a place to come if we do not (Psalm 145:4 ; Ecclesiastes 1:4)
