In 2 Cor 6:1 Paul wrote, “We then, as workers together with him, beseech you…”.  Consider this.  Paul was God’s chosen vessel to bear the Lord’s name before the Gentiles, and kings, and the children of Israel, Acts 9:15.  Paul was the one to whom God gave the revelations of the mysteries.  And Paul was the one whom God used to write 14 books of the New Testament.  He was caught up to the third heaven.  All told, he was an incredible individual.

Yet, he said, “as workers together with him”.  He said of his work with Apollos, “we are laborers together with God”, 1 Cor 3:9.  Paul was sent out to travel with Barnabas.  He wrote his letters with men like Timothy, Silas, and Sosthenes.  Rarely do you see him working alone.  He even requested Mark to be sent to him, because he was profitable to Paul for the ministry, 2 Tim 4:11.  

Even when no man stood with him in his answer before the tribune, 2 Tim 4:16, notwithstanding, the Lord stood with him, 2 Tim 4:17.  And in the end, Luke was with him, 2 Tim 4:11.  He said, “Only Luke is with me”, as if to suggest that he was always working “with” at least someone else.  

In other words, as independent as Paul could have been, he was always working with someone else and always with the Lord.  From this we learn much about our text.

Workers together with him.  “With him” are the key words.  Jesus said, “Without me ye can do nothing”.  He also said, “With God all things are possible”.  From the beginning of our salvation we are “with him”.  We are crucified, buried, and risen with “him”.  In Matthew he said, “I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world”.  In Hebrews he said, “I will never leave thee nor forsake thee”.

Jesus is the head of the body.  This Paul said in 1 Cor 3:9, “we are laborers together with God”.  We have to be doing what God is doing.  This is what I call “Jigsaw puzzle vision and direction”. 

Workers together.  As Eph 4:16 says “every joint supplieth”.  The result of us working together is greater than the sum of our individual efforts.  In Lev 26:8 five of you shall chase a hundred, and an hundred of you shall put ten thousand to flight.  In Deut 32:30 How should one chase a thousand, and two put ten thousand to flight, except their Rock had sold them, and the Lord had shut the up?  Notice the exponential increase in results by the addition of a few more helpers.

Consider four part harmony.  You may be able to do some pretty good singing by yourself.  But you can’t accomplish by yourself what you can accomplish when you sing the parts with others.  

Crew involves 8 rowing positions in a racing shell.  Positions 1 and 2 are the bow pair.  1 is called the Bow.  The smooth, fluid technique of these lighter athletes balances the boat.  Positions 3, 4, 5, and 6 are the “engine room”.  They are big, strong athletes.  Positions 7 and 8 are the stern pair.  8 is called the Stroke.  He is likely the best racer in the boat.  He sets the rhythm that the rest of the boat can follow.  The stroke is in close relationship with the coxswain to keep the boat moving at the best speed at all times.  Ideally, the crew gets in “the swing”, which propels the shell perfectly.  Rowing in unison, completely trusting each other, and working as one is far greater than each athlete rowing as if the rest of the boat depends upon him and his individual effort.

In our local church, we should function as one endeavoring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.  We have an adversary who would try to divide us.  But when we function as one body, then we can accomplish what God wants done here far better than we can by all working individually.

Workers.  In Eph 2:10 we are his workmanship created in Christ Jesus unto good works.  In Titus 2:14 we are to be a peculiar people zealous of good works.  In Titus 3:14 we are instructed to let ours also learn to maintain good works for necessary uses.  

Solomon instructed us to go to the ant when we are being sluggards.  They’re all doing something for the ant colony and they work together to get it done.

Conclusion: Perhaps, today, Jesus is still with you but you aren’t with him.  You need to get back with him.  Perhaps, you aren’t working as one with your brothers and sisters in Christ here.  Perhaps, you aren’t working at all.  Speak to the Lord about this during the invitation and get yourself sorted out with him.  

As for the upcoming Gospel Brunch, you can fast and pray, invite folks, greet visitors, help with personal work, cook, clean, and so forth.  There are many things we can do together with God for the sake of lost souls.
