Worry is Sin
Romans 14:23
“Whatsoever is not of faith is sin” Worry is sin. The definition is “to feel or express undue care and anxiety, to be fretful”. God tells us all throughout the Bible not to worry. [Phil 4:6] says “to be careful for nothing”. When we worry, we doubt the promises of God and fall prey to our adversary. [1 Sam 1:6] Hannah has an adversary that is causing her to fret. Besides the lack of faith, worry causes health, emotional and spiritual problems in your life.
Matt. 6:24-34 Worry is not of faith
Verse 24 – The context is that “Ye cannot serve God and mammon”. You can’t serve two masters. When you place any part of your faith in something or someone other than God, you are trying to serve two masters.
Verse 25 – Jesus says “take no thought”, don’t worry. He goes on to mention three basic needs in life that we all have, food, drink, and raiment. These must be things that the world has lots of interest in, just watch TV for 30 minutes and you will be bombarded.
Verse 26 – Are ye not much better than the fowls of the air which the Lord feeds?
Verse 27 – Can you by thought change anything? Many times we spend much time worrying about things that we cannot change ourselves.
Verses 28-30 – God clothed the grass of the field, which is cast into the oven, shall he not much more clothe you? Then he calls worry just what it is, a lack of faith.
Verses 31-32 – Jesus says not to worry, God knows the things that you have need of.
Verses 33-34 – Jesus tells us to seek first the Kingdom of God and his righteousness (get saved and live a Godly life), and ALL these things will be added unto you, therefore take no thought for tomorrow (don’t worry).
Ps.37:1-7 How to not worry
Verse 3 – Trust in the Lord and do good
[Isa 26:3] You get kept in perfect peace by trusting in the Lord [Phil.4:6-7] Don’t worry and get the peace of God.This verse also says “do good”. If you have an exam on Friday and you fail to study or “do good”, you will have no peace, and will have plenty of reason to worry. Don’t think that your trust in the Lord alone will get you the grade. Trusting in the Lord and doing good is something that you work on daily throughout your entire life.
Verse 4 – Delight thyself also in the Lord
[Isa. 58:14] If you do, God will take care of you. You need to reach a point in your life that the things of God are the things that you find pleasure in or delight you.Verse 5 – Commit thy way unto the Lord
[Prov.16:3] He will establish your thoughts, hard to worry when God controls your mind. [Ps.37:25] Putting footsteps with your faith (commitment) will never fail.Verse 7 – Rest in the Lord, and wait patiently for him
[Matt.11:28] Get to a place where it is just you and God and shuck the burden. It is hard to worry when it’s just you and him.The verse also says wait patiently for him. Worry will cause you not to wait on the Lord. Here are seven examples of when you should wait.
Wait on God when:
- You don’t know what to do.
- Things aren’t going well.
- You are in a crisis.
- You want to go, (feelings).
- You are spiritually burdened.
- Physically restless.
- You haven’t finished what you came to do.
Worry will not have place in your life if, you trust in the Lord and do good, you delight thyself also in the Lord, commit thy way to the Lord, and rest and wait patiently for him.
