Your Mind Phil 2:5 CLICK TITLE FOR AUDIO
The theme of this sermon is How To Transform Your Mind. You transform your mind by following the points outlined in this sermon. You must scripturally understand your mind to realize how vital it is that your mind change after you get saved and that you protect your mind from any influence that would cause you to think like you did when you were lost. Here is the Biblical insight on your mind:
Before you were saved your mind was terribly affected by the devil and the world [Eph 2:2-3]. Depending how long you refused to believe the gospel, your mind may have been blinded by the devil [2 Cor 4:4]. Likewise, depending on the depth of sin in your life your mind could have been defiled and reprobate [Titus 1:15; Rom 1:28].
After you were saved, the Lord went to work immediately on your mind to get it right [Mk 5:15] and to make it sound [2 Tim 1:7]. He gave you the mind of Christ [1 Cor 2:16].
The trouble at this juncture in your brand new Christian life is that the devil will send men of corrupt minds to try to corrupt you from the simplicity that is in Christ [2 Cor 11:3; 1 Tim 6:5]. So, you have to beware and stick with basic, true Bible doctrine and not get taken off track by someone with false doctrine.
After we are saved, the Lord wants us to grow. In order to do that our minds need to be transformed [Rom 12:2]. This transformation involves a renewing of our minds that takes place daily [2 Cor 4:16]. You are transformed by the renewing of your mind:
By being humble – Phil 2:5 Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus: Colossians 3:12 Put on therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, bowels of mercies, kindness, humbleness of mind, meekness, longsuffering;
By reading and obeying your Bible – Rom 7:25 I thank God through Jesus Christ our Lord. So then with the mind I myself serve the law of God; but with the flesh the law of sin.
By yielding to the Holy Spirit – Eph 4:23 and be renewed in the spirit of your mind; Notice the admonition to grieve not the Spirit [Eph 4:30] because the Spirit is greatly involved in renewing your mind, as well [Titus 3:5]. Notice that as you yield to the Spirit you will putting off the old man and putting on the new man [Eph 4:22-32; Col 5:5-10]. The renewing starts in your mind and comes out in your actions and behavior [Jas 1:22]. You will develop a spiritual mind.
Note that trouble can come in here because you still have a carnal mind. Rom 8:6-7 For to be carnally minded is death; but to be spiritually minded is life and peace. Romans 8:7 Because the carnal mind is enmity against God: for it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can be. Phil 3:19 whose end is destruction, whose God is their belly, and whose glory is in their shame, who mind earthly things.) Jas 1:8 A double minded man is unstable in all his ways.
By regularly attending church – Rom 15:6 that ye may with one mind and one mouth glorify God, even the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. Philippians 1:27 Only let your conversation be as it becometh the gospel of Christ: that whether I come and see you, or else be absent, I may hear of your affairs, that ye stand fast in one spirit, with one mind striving together for the faith of the gospel; 1 Cor 1:10 Now I beseech you, brethren, by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that ye all speak the same thing, and that there be no divisions among you; but that ye be perfectly joined together in the same mind and in the same judgment. Don’t let anything spilt you off from a good Bible-believing, Bible-preaching, Bible-teaching church.
By praying – Phil 4:6-7 And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus. Is 26:3 mind stayed on thee. 2 Thes 2:2 that ye be not soon shaken in mind, or be troubled, neither by spirit, nor by word, nor by letter as from us, as that the day of Christ is at hand. Prayer gives you peace of mind even though everyone around you is shaken and afraid by all the bad news.
If you will do these things, your mind will be renewed and transformed. Don’t faint in your race… the devil is right on your heels. Heb 12:3 For consider him that endured such contradiction of sinners against himself, lest ye be wearied and faint in your minds.
Conclusion: Our minds should be daily transforming by not being conformed to this world and by the mind of Christ as we read and obey the Bible, walk in the Spirit, get in and stay in a good church, and pray.
